Celeste Jhala - Experience Designer

Interdisciplinary designer. Forever curious. Likes to think in systems.

Looks at plants too closely. Will pet your dog.

Hey! Hi. Welcome. My name is Celeste (my pronouns are she/her), and I am an interdisciplinary designer based in Vancouver, B.C., living and working on the unceded, ancestral, and occupied, traditional lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Səl̓ílwətaʔ (Tsleil-Watuth), and Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) Nations of the Coast Salish peoples.

I’ve lived a few lives throughout my career, ranging from wedding design, brand and licensing management for toys, and operations for many startups. But where i’ve really made a home for myself is within the intersection of functional and visual design. Whether creative or managerial, these diverse experiences inform my current practice, allowing me to think like a cross-functional team.

Business-trained, artist at heart, scientist at hand—I love diving deep into the details of big messy problems, translating them into functional building blocks, and creating designs that are infused with value, intuition, and grace. I believe that good business and design is heart-centered, and acknowledges not only the wellness of today’s users, but those to come in the generations that follow.

As an interdisciplinary designer, I carry a well-rounded toolkit that uses a curiosity-first approach to design. In combination with an empathetic lens and a resourceful spirit, that toolkit can be applied to any business problem or vertical to truly uncover pain points and craft solutions that work.

So what does that actually mean? Here are some things you’ll often find me saying:

  • “Oh, that’s interesting! Can you tell me more about that?”

  • “Have you worked with a functional hierarchy before?”

  • “So, what we’re trying to do is…”

  • “It’s called the golden ratio. Just multiply or divide by 1.62”

  • “Hmmm.. let’s check the bible

  • “Please download & install this font before viewing :) ”

If this tickles your fancy, send me a note!

Current Inspiration

“Don’t identify as every thought or emotion you feel. Stay the observer of it, and journey in grace.”

In case you’re wondering just how closely she looks at plants…
